Abstract

Ambiguity could be either optional or obligatory which requires good knowledge and concerns of language use. This research plays a big role in determining the differences and similarities of ambiguity in both languages. This is an attempt to compare lexical ambiguity in English and Kurdish languages based on the linguistic study of both languages. Lexical ambiguity has its characteristics and types in each language. Although each language has its unique system and characteristics, they still have some similarities. The number of similar and different points is equal in both English and Kurdish Languages in types of lexical ambiguity. In contrast, there is a big difference in reasons that make lexical ambiguity between both languages, each language has it is own specific technique to resolve lexical ambiguity and uses different ways to clarify ambiguity.
